My skin seems to be getting worse. What's causing this?

When you start using your personalized skincare products, you may experience an initial breakout or worsening of other skin conditions. This occurs when the product speeds up the skin's natural exfoliation process, leading to the elimination of trapped debris, clogged pores, or underlying bacteria. This is called purging. During the purging phase, you might experience anything from small, superficial bumps to deep, inflamed pimples. For some patients, this typically happens 1-2 weeks after starting the product and can last up to 6 weeks. However, don't worry, as once your skin adjusts, you should start seeing improvement and healthier skin!

There are a few tips for caring for your skin during the purging phase:

1.
Reduce usage: Try reducing the frequency of product application to every other night until your skin adjusts.
2. Be gentle: Avoid harsh scrubbing or exfoliation that may further irritate the skin.
3.
Moisturize: Use a gentle moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated.
4.
Avoid picking: Refrain from picking or popping any pimples to prevent scarring or infections.
5.
Contact your provider: Please reach out if purging persists for more than 8 weeks without improvement and with any questions or concerns regarding your symptoms. Your dermatology provider will determine the best course of action, including adjusting your personalized formula as needed.
